OK – so these aren’t official wonders of the world – but we’ve got a line up of seven attractions that make Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds what they are courtesy of Sykes Cottages.
1. Sykes cottages
Firstly, you’ll need a place to rest your hat after a long day’s falconry or festival-going. There are plenty of unique cottages available via www.sykescottages.co.uk in the Cotswolds area which are both cosy inside and beautifully rustic on the outside.
2. Gloucester falconry
Gloucestershire is one of the best places in the UK to experience falconry. You can experience a full day of bird-handling with a lunch included in the price. You’ll get a chance to handle some exceptional species like the Peregrine Falcon (the fastest animal in the world).
3. Gloucester cathedral
Art and architecture fans will find Gloucester cathedral an unmissable experience. There are stunning stained glass windows dating from the 14th century to the late 20th century. To satisfy everyone, there are also frequent exhibitions by contemporary artists.
4. Royal Forest of Dean
The forest of Dean can be as exciting as it is peaceful and scenic. The pathways of the ancient forest can be explored on foot, on horseback, or by bike. You can also go canoeing, caving and abseiling, as well as high wire rope walking.
5. Cotswold perfumery
Creating your own fragrance is easy at the Cotswold perfumery. Trained perfumers will teach you how to create a bespoke scent for yourself or a loved one.
6. Everyman Theatre
From panto to Shakespeare – this theatre truly lives up to its name. It’s a local favourite choice for a night out in Cheltenham and the theatre restaurant comes recommended.
7. Didmarton Bluegrass Festival
If you’re into camping and festivals, then try the Didmarton Bluegrass Festival. There’s a great family atmosphere and even music lessons available in guitar, bango and mandolin.
These seven attractions represent the best of Gloucestershire, but there are plenty of other gems around the county.
