Berkeley is a small town located between Bristol and Gloucester, in the English county of Gloucestershire. History suggests the town has existed in the Vale of Berkeley for over 9 centuries, as long as its main attraction, Berkeley Castle.

A medieval fortress, Berkeley Castle played an important part in British history, and is famed for visits from Elizabeth The 1st, and the murder of Edward The 2nd, which took place in the Castle. Today the castle, gardens, and butterfly house, attract visitors from all over the country, and there’s a full schedule of events throughout the year too.

Other attractions in the town include the Jenner Museum, once the home of Edward Jenner, a pioneer in the world of vaccinations, St Mary’s Church, which has an interesting history dating back to Saxon/Norman times, and for animal lovers, horse riding facilities, the Berkeley Hunt, and The Cattle Country Adventure Park.

The rest of the town is an interesting mix of the historical and contemporary, with traditional accommodation like The Malt House and Berkeley Arms, sitting alongside modern shops, chain hotels, and other facilities. Good road, rail, and cycle links, and a proximity to Bristol International Airport, mean that Berkeley is not just a town that’s highly accessible, but also a town that’s also well located for exploring what the rest of Gloucestershire has to offer. Why not pay a visit, and find out exactly what that is!
