Chipping Campden lies in the picturesque North Cotswolds in Gloucestershire, and in some ways a visit here, is like stepping back in time. Traditional stone built houses, workshops, and business units adorn every street giving the town a feel of the olde Cotswolds.
There is evidence of old building styles and industry throughout the streets, beginning with the Market Hall, once built to shelter market traders, and now owned by the National Trust. There’s also the old Silk Mill, which currently houses an exhibition of old artefacts, and the long running Guild Of Handicrafts, and the old Woolstapers Hall. This building was built in 1340 as a Wool Exchange, and attracted Merchants from around the world.
The arts and craft theme continues through the shops throughout Chipping Campden, with pottery, stoneware, and locally designed jewellery all for sale. There’s also some book shops, antique stores, and interesting food outlets in the town, along with cutlery and tableware designed by Robert Welch.
For visitors that are all shopped out, there a number of places to eat and drink in the town, ranging from the Bantam and Badgers Hall Tea Rooms and Michaels Mediterranean Restaurant, to the 14th Century Eight Bells Inn and the informal Hicks Brasserie. Walking off the tea and scones won’t be a problem either, as Chipping Campden is ideally located for access to the 100 mile route of the Cotswold Way.
This is a town that is peaceful, traditional, and full of Cotswold Country Life. Staying here is a treat, so why not check out Hotels like The Kings Hotel or Riverside Hotel, Home Farm House or Manor Farm, Self Catering Choices like Over The Arches and Dragon House Cottage, or one of the pubs/country inns in the area offering accommodation. When you’ve chosen a place to stay, all that’s left is to book your trip and enjoy a relaxing break in this North Cotswolds town.
