Westbury-on-Severn is located along a stretch of the A48, close to the River Severn, and between Newnham and Ministerworth in Gloucestershire. The main village is only a mile long, though it’s surrounded by up to 12 settlements that make up the ‘parish’ of Westbury-on-Severn.

The main streets in the village contain a post office/shop, the Red Lion Pub, a Doctors Surgery, and Church. Although a small community, they are a lively one, and there are often social events going on, with sporting clubs active in and around the area too. There’s Westbury-on-Severn Rugby Club, and Westbury-on-Severn Cricket Club, which in 2002 celebrated 50 years of Cricket in the village. Despite being a small community, this village has also attracted the attention of the National Trust, who undertook their first garden restoration at Westbury Court Garden, which can now boast the honour of being the only restored Dutch Water Garden in the country.

All this would make for an interesting day or afternoon out, and is easily accessible too, either by car or through the bus services that run through the village, connecting it to places like Coleford in the Forest Of Dean, Gloucester, and Lydney. As a small village, it doesn’t offer any accommodation options, but there are hotels nearby, such as Express By Holiday Inn, Gloucester, The Beacon Inn and Hotel in Stonehouse, The Farmers Boy Inn in Newent, and Birdwood Villa Farm in Gloucester. With choices both in terms of activities and accommodation near Westbury-on-Severn, and the village itself full of charm, the question is, do you believe all the best things come in small packages?
