Wotton-under-Edge is a town in the Stroud district of Gloucestershire. Records state that the first mention of Wotton was around 940 AD, and since then it enjoyed prosperous periods as a Wool Town, later developing into the small market town it is today.

To find out more about the town’s history, visitors should stop off at the Wotton Heritage Centre, located in The Chipping (old market place). Move on and explore Wotton-under-Edge and you’ll find Almshouses dating back to the 17th and 18th Century, ancient Inns such as the Star Inn, the old market house which now serves as the Town Hall, Tolsey House, with its famous Victoria Jubilee Clock, and The Church of St Mary The Virgin.

Walkers wanting to go further afield will find the Cotswold Way running through the centre of Wotton, and many other circular routes taking in surrounding villages, and points of interest, such as the Tyndale Monument, The Ridings, and Coombe Lakes.

Wotton-under-Edge is a place where history and nature collide, and mix with small scale industry, like Reinshaws Metrology Business, shopping facilities in Church Street, Long Street, Market Street, and The High Street, and community events such as Strawberry Fayres, Pantomines, and the Wotton Arts and Crafts Trail, where locals proudly display their talents.

There is easy access to the town from both the M4 and M5 motorways, buses running from Gloucester, Bristol and Stroud, and you can also catch a train to Bristol or Gloucester, so why not pay a visit?
